My favorite part of July was my best friend visiting me in Turkey for a 10-day-trip. It was her first time there and I had the opportunity to plan a full and fun itinerary for her as we visited different cities, ate a ton of Turkish food, and experienced Turkish hospitality first-hand. I will be creating a blogpost for our itinerary with all our stops and recommendations so watch out for that next month.
As I was quite busy, I did not read as much as I usually do, but here are some of my picks for the month.
Contentless Worlds by Luke Burgis — On content creation, forms, and our inability to see them.
Designing the Powerpuff Girls by Animation Obsessive — On the inception of a childhood favorite.
The Left is a Labor Movement, the Left is a Worker's Movement by FdB — On the irony of being “anti-work” while being on the left.
Scenes from an Open Marriage By Jean Garnett — On one woman’s experience with opening up her marriage. She is such a great writer that the topic and premise, both of which are otherwise uninteresting and morally shady to me, became illuminating.
I did watch the first season of Fleabag (2016) and listened to a lot of music. Fleabag is okay. I would give it a 7/10 just because I am, at this point, tired of seeing women ages 25-40 use sex as a self-destruction mechanism on TV. The show itself is very imaginative and I think has a ton of potential, but gets wasted on snappy commentary about lust and desirability more than half the time. I am hopeful about season 2, we will see.
As for music, Lizzo’s newest album has been a blast. My favorite song that’s been on repeat is The Sign.
Looking forward to your Turkey itinerary. Especially excited for food/restaurant recommendations.
